Final report for the 2006/2007 Point to Point Season.

Oh dear, it has fallen to me to write the last report for the season as Fred is still suffering and the fact that he had to miss the final two meetings has not improved the pace of his recovery.  It is only bronchitis but the nurse's bell is forever ringing and I now regret the number of times I used it when my old hip was thrown away and a new one fitted last year.  He has the last laugh on the 'friend' from Exmoor who supplied said bell for my use, because now it is in the hands of the tin holder.  Many many thanks to all who have sent emails/'get well' cards and telephone messages which will be acknowledged as soon as the 'fit' signal is received from the bell holder.

The season has come to an end once again and I speak for the both of us to say that we have thoroughly enjoyed this longer season.  From early December right through to June we have enjoyed almost every meeting and we have been to over thirty of them.  Only one at Holnicote (Hunnycot!) was a great disappointment and should never have taken place due to underfoot conditions but the remainder were excellent.

Our praises go out first and foremost to the owners.  Support for Point to Point racing has continued to have been forthcoming from a great number of owners and they have provided us followers with tremendous sport. The cost of owning horses and keeping them in training has increased like most things today, but this has not deterred the dedicated few who choose to keep this amateur sport afloat by providing trained horses to race each weekend around the P to P meetings.

A tremendous amount of man hours are necessary to prepare courses and surrounds prior to racing and a big thank you to all volunteers who come forward to support their hunts and provide the necessary labour.  It would not work without you.

Finally our sincere thanks go out to all landowners/farmers who allow their hunts to use their land for the purpose of Point to Point racing.  Again we could not manage without their valuable assistance.

The tin and bag have been cleaned out and will be put to one side until December.  The web site will carry the next season's fixtures as soon as we have them from Weatherbys and it will also be used for the benefit of the North Cornwall Hunt Supporters, but feel free to forward any information you require posting up.  I am pleased to see that up to today there have been 90,000 page views on our website and an average of almost 100 hits per day.  We are so pleased that so many of you get as much enjoyment from the site as we do posting it up.  Long may it continue.

I must leave now as the bell ring-eth once more, please keep us up-to-date with out of season happenings and we will be back in December.  Make sure you - BE THERE!
